What is cloud computing?

Cloud computing

Cloud computing is a model for delivering computing services over the internet, including storage, processing, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence. Instead of owning and maintaining physical infrastructure, such as servers and data centers, organizations can use cloud computing to access these resources on an as-needed basis, often on a pay-per-use or subscription basis.

Public Cloud

A public cloud is a type of cloud computing that is owned and operated by a third-party cloud service provider, such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, which makes resources, such as computing power, storage, and networking, available to the general public over the internet. Public clouds are designed to be scalable, flexible, and cost-effective.

Private

A private cloud is a type of cloud computing that is operated exclusively for a single organization, and is designed to provide the benefits of cloud computing while maintaining the control and security of an on-premises data center. Private clouds can be owned and operated by the organization itself, or they can be provided by a third-party vendor on a dedicated basis.

Hybrid Cloud

A hybrid cloud is a type of cloud computing that combines elements of both public and private clouds, allowing organizations to use a mix of on-premises, private cloud, and third-party, public cloud services. Hybrid clouds can provide the benefits of both types of clouds, including the scalability, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness of public clouds, combined with the security, control, and performance of private clouds.

Types of Cloud Service

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

This is the most basic form of public cloud computing, and involves the provision of raw computing resources, such as storage, networking, and computing power, over the internet.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

This type of public cloud computing provides a platform for building, deploying, and managing applications and services, without the need to worry about the underlying infrastructure.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

This type of public cloud computing involves the delivery of software applications over the internet, often on a subscription basis. An example of this would be Microsoft 365.
